hospital gunfire. it's prisoner versus police officer inside a baltimore county emergency room. >> what led to a gun going off. a terrifying afternoon at university of maryland st. joseph medical center when a prisoner tries to wrestle away the gun of a police officer guarding him in the emergency room. wjz is live at the hospital. megan mccorchal has more on what happened. >> reporter: the prisoner turned on the hospital staff and the officer that was

guarding him. >> reporter: police cars flood the entrance to the emergency room at university of maryland st. joseph medical center. >> a police officer and the prison got into a scuffle. >> reporter: fellow officers rushed to help that female officer. the officer was guarding a prisoner who had been take ton the e.r. for medical attention, but a hospital staffer noticed something wrong. >> at some point, one of the hospital staff people discovered that the prisoner had a needle of some sort hidden in his clothing. >> reporter: the man then grabbed a hospital staffer. that's when the officer stepped in and the prisoner tried to grab her gun. a shot was fired into the wall. >> the officer discharge pepper spray in an attempt to subdue the prisoner. >> reporter: backup officers warmed the hospital and got the suspect under control. >> reporter: during the investigation, the hospital restricted vehicle access to

let's look at temps and conditions around the region right now with scheer skies. it has gotten chilly compared to earlier this week. dew points way down to 20 degrees. breeze is 8 miles per hour. the barometer is way back up. 27 in oakland. 33 in cumberland. lots of 30s north of the city. still kind of mild. compared to what we've seen, this is a big difference. 44 down by the bay. we have a northwest wind still breezy to our south. the winds are getting down to 4, 5, 6-mile per hour. so a cold night on tap. the front that gave us some crowds and no rain at all, a little bit of rain moved through the area this morning, being replaced by cold high pressure that bumped in from

canada. but it will not last for a long time. some lake effect snow is in the area. just a few high, thing clouds. this front to the south is stalling out it will move to the weekend. there's warm air that we saw. some of that warm air will ride over this chillily air. we could see some showers here as early as saturday night or sunday. probably your best chance will come sunday night into monday. temperature-wise, down to 39 here. not all that cold right now. 28, 37 in winnipeg. there's some mild air here that will come back to the renal by early this weekend. so cool tonight, yes. but as time moves on, here comes that mild air once again. there will be some rain north of us and south of us. most of the region will be dry until the latter part of the weekend. southeast winds 5 to 10 knots, the bay temp around 48.
